For many years, Michigan CPL holders enjoyed having their valid Michigan CPL License qualify as a background check for the purchase/transfer of a firearm.
That changed some years back, discouraging some CPL holders from maintaining their license and subjecting them to a potential 72 hour (or longer) wait to obtain a firearm if delayed by the FBI NICS system background check.
EFFECTIVE 5/23/25 your valid Michigan CPL License now qualifies as your background check at any local Brady Bill honoring FFL! This means NO MORE DELAYS for no seemingly good reason!
